✨ Hannah Who’s Favorite Spots to Work, Edit, and Brew!

May 3, 2025

As a photographer, filmmaker, and storyteller, where I work truly impacts how I work. The lighting, the energy, the background noise (or blissful lack thereof)—it all plays into the way I create. Over time, I’ve explored dozens of coffee shops, libraries, and tucked-away gems, and I’m finally sharing what I’ve found to be some of the best places to work remotely in the Metro Detroit area.

Whether you’re local and looking to shake up your work-from-home routine, or just visiting and want a beautiful place to hang out with your laptop, this list is for you.

These are spots that make me feel calm, inspired, and focused—whether I’m editing wedding films, writing a blog post, or just catching up on life admin with a good iced coffee in hand.

🎨 Kresge Court – Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA)
This place feels like editing inside a painting. Tucked inside the DIA, it’s quiet, elegant, and filled with natural light. There’s something about working under tall ceilings with art all around you that just hits different. A great place for deep focus.

📚 Detroit Public Library – Across from the DIA
A true gem. The historic architecture and big wooden tables give “writer retreat” energy. It’s peaceful and just steps away from the art museum. If you’re like me and get inspired by beauty, history, and a little bit of movie-set charm, this spot’s for you.

☕️ The Congregation – Detroit, MI
A café inside a renovated church?! Yes, please. The Congregation has a creative vibe that always sparks something for me. The coffee’s great, the community is strong, and if the weather’s nice, the outdoor seating is chef’s kiss. Great for light laptop work and people-watching.

🪴 Fresh Bean Coffee Co. – Eureka, MI
Warm, welcoming, and the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. I love this spot when I want to feel tucked away from the world but still fueled by a solid cup of coffee. Ideal for cozy solo editing sessions.

🌊 Kekoa Coffee Co. – Wyandotte, MI

This spot has a modern, earthy vibe that makes it easy to get into flow—and it kind of feels like a little beachy café straight out of Lilo & Stitch. I’m not the biggest fan of their coffee, but their matcha and chai are both so good, and the food is solid if you’re planning to hang out for a while. Bonus: it’s right by the waterfront, so you can take a mid-editing break with a view.

🌳 Elizabeth Park – Trenton, MI
This one’s for my outdoorsy laptop friends. Under the gazebo, there are actual plugs to charge your devices (!!!) and it overlooks the river. On a nice day, this is hands down one of my favorite places to edit. Peaceful, pretty, and practical.

☕️ BONUS: Elliott’s Bakery – Trenton, MI

Not a laptop lounge—but so worth a stop. Elliott’s has hands down my favorite coffee in the area. Their white chocolate mocha is next-level—creamy, cozy, and perfectly sweet. I love grabbing one to go and heading to Elizabeth Park just down the street. A dream pairing.
